SBI Online Login – SBI Net Banking Login – New User Net Banking Registration

Everyone who has a SBI bank account can register for Internet Banking and start enjoying the facilities of online banking with SBI. The following article will provide you with the detailed procedure to help you to register and login to SBI Portal for the first time.   

Obtaining the Login ID and password to register for SBI Internet Banking

You would need a unique login id and password to login to the SBI Portal. The procedure to obtain Login ID and password for SBI Internet Banking are very simple. You can collect the Internet Banking Kit from your respective SBI branch where you have your account. The kit is available instantly; however, you need to wait for 24 hours for it to be activated by the bank. SBI also allows you to get your unique Login ID and password without needing to go to the bank. This is particularly useful when you are unable to get to your branch because of the distance or time factor. However, everyone can take advantage of this second option where you can get the Login ID and password delivered on your registered mobile number. You just need to provide the details of the account and the debit card to avail this option.

Registering for SBI Internet Banking Services through Internet Banking Kit

The following steps in this section would guide you to register for SBI Internet Banking if you have the ‘Internet Banking Kit’ collected from the bank. Although the second option is more convenient, a lot of people find it easier to obtain the kit from the bank. Here are the steps to register:

  1. Get the Internet Banking Kit from the SBI branch where you have the account

The Internet Banking Kit is a simple set of documents that provides you a unique Login ID and a temporary password along with some documents containing the information about SBI Internet Banking. To obtain your Internet Banking Kit, you would first need to get the Online Banking Application Form. This form can be obtained from any of the SBI branches. You can even get it from any of the branches of the five associate banks. Fill up the details in the form and submit it to your respective SBI branch office where you have your account. The SBI official would check and collect the form and give you the Internet Banking Kit instantly.    

Useful Tip: It is best to get the Online Application Form directly from your respective SBI branch office. It will be more convenient and time saving to get the form from the same branch and submit is then and there rather than collecting it from somewhere else and then submitting it in your branch.

  1. Wait for 24 hours for your Kit to be activated by the bank

The SBI Internet Banking Kit that you have obtained from the bank needs to be activated by the bank before you can use it. After you get the kit from the bank, the bank sends a request for activation. It takes about 24 hours for the kit to be activated.  You can check if the kit is activated by entering the Login ID provided in the kit on the SBI Online Portal. If you get a message saying Invalid ID, just wait for another 24 hours. If you face the same problem even after 48 hours, it is recommended that you check the status from your branch.

  1. Entering the temporary Login ID and password

Once the activation is done, you are ready to register for the SBI Internet Banking using the temporary Login ID and password provided in the kit. Go to www.onlinesbi.com, the official website on SBI Online Banking and information. The normal user needs to choose ‘Personal Banking’ between the Personal and Corporate Banking options. Click the Login tab in this section. As you click, you will have the next web page on your screen with information about using internet banking safely. On the bottom, you will have the option ‘Login to SBI’. Click this option. One the next webpage, you will have the blank space to enter you Login ID and password.  Enter the details and

  1. Set your user ID, login password and transaction password for SBI Internet Banking

Once you enter the correct Login ID and the associated password, you would have the Welcome Page on your screen. On the first time, it will be asked to choose the desired Login ID that is available. After entering a particular Login ID, you can check if it is available by clicking ‘Check username availability’. Once the username is accepted, you would be asked to choose the login password and enter it twice for confirmation. Apart from the login password, you would also be asked to set the profile password on the next page. Click ‘Continue’ to navigate to the next page. Choose a strong profile password and fill other details such as security questions, date of birth, place of birth, mobile number and country. Submit the details after checking them carefully.

A lot of people enter any absurd characters in the answers for the chose security question. This can be very problematic for you in the future when you would try to reset the password or update any information. Thus, enter the right answers to match the questions. Choose such questions for which you can easily reproduce the answers when asked for in the future.

Note: Some people are confused about the two password system of SBI Internet Banking. Every online banking service has two levels of security to provide you safe and secured services. The login password is required to cross the first level of security. You can just check the details about the balance and transactions. The second level of security i.e. profile password is required to initiate any type of transaction online or change any information.  

Registering for SBI Internet Banking Services without Internet Banking Kit

Now, we would discuss the more convenient of two methods for obtaining the unique Login ID and password without obtaining the Internet Banking Kit from the bank. You just need to have the details of the account including the account number, registered mobile number, code and CIF number of the branch etc.

Here is the step by step process:

Step 1 :- Log on to www.onlinesbi.com, the official website for SBI Online Banking Services. Click ‘New User Registration’. You will get a pop with some information and two options, OK and Cancel. Click ‘OK’.

Step 2 :- Enter the details about the account number, registered mobile number, code and CIF number of the branch and country. Choose ‘Full Transaction Rights’ from the dropdown menu in front of ‘Choose the Facility required’. This will give you access to the entire range of services available online. Click Submit to move to the next page.

Step 3 :- In this page, you will be asked to enter OTP (One Time password). This is a unique code that you would receive in the form of a message on the registered mobile number. If you do not get the message, you can request to resend it by clicking ‘Resend OTP’.      

Note: Registered mobile number is the one that you had provided to the bank while opening your account. It is the same mobile number of which you receive the notifications from the bank.

Step 4 :- On entering the correct OTP, you will be directed to the next page where you will be asked if you have the SBI ATM card (the one that is linked to your account). Click yes to continue.

Step 5 :- On the next page, you will be asked to enter the ATM card such as the card number, expiry date and ATM pin. Once you enter the correct details and click submit, you will receive a temporary Login ID and password on your registered mobile number.  

You can use this Login ID and password to continue your registration as described in the first method.
